In Symphony of Secrets Music professor Bern Hendricks discovers a shocking secret about the most famous American composer of all time—his music may have been stolen from a Black Jazz Age prodigy named Josephine Reed. Determined to uncover the truth that a powerful organization wants to keep hidden, Bern will stop at nothing to right history’s wrongs and give Josephine the recognition she deserves.
The exclusive invitation to the Symphony of Secrets Tabahani Book Circle August meeting assigned each member a color to wear from the Rings Quintet of Olympia (Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, and Green).
As they arrived they were serenaded with musical selections of legendary composers — Florence Price, William Grant Still, Margaret Bonds, and George Walker — and welcomed to the “Delaney Foundation” to honor Josephine Reed.
The conference room was decorated with assorted vintage sheet music and musical notes motifs.
The guests participated in tests to determine if they were synesthetes like Josephine. It was interesting to see which members leaned toward the condition.
Guests dined on assorted pizzas like Bern & Eboni, along with various salads, beverages, and a variety of pastries.
In another salute to Josephine’s talents, each guests shared a song that evoked hidden truths, timeless music, unbreakable bonds or other themes of the book to create a playlist inspired by Symphony of Secrets.
A surprise appearance by renowned violist and author Brendan Slocumb was an added treat as he shared his thoughts on the characters and themes of the novel.
As guests parted, they each received a gift bag with various music-note themed items and a card defining the condition, Synesthesia.
