Assault on Illiteracy Initiative Taking A Different Direction, April 17, 2021
Intentional– done on purpose, deliberate, voluntary, conscious; is how I would describe the Bridge Builders/Tabahani Book Circle/Zeta Rho Assault on Illiteracy Initiative. It began with gifting Stem books to students at 5 different elementary schools. These books mirrored our target audience, students of color. Today we took our initiative in a different direction; building desk to provide students with a designated location to enhance their learning environment. Thank you Tabahani members Sharon Kirkland and Tracey Williamson for all your hard work today. Thanks Carol A. Fowler for answering my call for help; always well prepared. To the members of Cerritos Baptist Church, great guidance and fellowship. Endless thanks to our partners in this endeavor the Bridge Builders Foundation and Zeta Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., 12th District. We were able to assemble 65 student desk and we delivered 42 of them to two local elementary schools Broadacres and Ambler in Carson, California. The remainder of the desk will be delivered within the coming week.
